かつて週刊少年ジャンプの3本柱といえば、One Piece、Naruto、Bleachでしたが、Narutoが2014年、Bleachが2016年で連載を終了し、One PIeceという巨頭を除けば、新たな担い手達が群雄闊歩している状況です。
その中で、頭ひとつ抜けているのが、「鬼滅の刃」、「僕のヒーローアカデミア」、「Dr, Stone」、「ハイキュー!!」、そして「約束のネバーランド」ではないでしょうか。
約束のネバーランドは、2016年35号より連載開始。2018年には「このマンガがすごい！」でオトコ版1位を受賞。そして2019年１月から３月にかけてアニメ第1期12話を放映し、人気を不動のものとしました。
海外でも高い評価を得たアニメ第1期ですが、放映終了と同時に第2期製作を発表。そして第2期放映開始も2020年１０月であることが公表されました。
第1期12話はグレイス＝フィールド（GF）脱獄編（マンガの第1話から第37話をベースにしています）。
マンガ原作はその後、ミネルヴァ探訪編（〜第64話）、ゴールディ・ポンド猟場編（〜第95話）、7つの壁編（〜第145話）、王都決戦編（連載中）と続くので、今回のアニメ第2期は、話数から考えてミネルヴァ探訪編が中心になるのでしょう。
となると、僕のヒーローアカデミアのように5期以上続くことが期待されます。
第1期の出来と現在の人気を考えればまず間違いないでしょう。
